A blocked drain at one restaurant can quickly take over your day. When you oversee several locations, you need a plumbing partner who can coordinate with the on-site manager, work around service, and keep you informed, without making you chase every detail.
Each location has its own equipment, layout and operating schedule. Some are in office towers with building security and shared plumbing systems. Others have different access requirements or very limited time available for repairs.
At Professional Plumbing Group (PPG), we support established restaurant groups with commercial plumbing repairs, maintenance and planned work in Toronto and the GTA, with particular attention to the Toronto core. We get familiar with each location so you spend less time explaining the same details on every call.
Less explaining every time you call
A contractor who gets to know your restaurants adds value. Knowing where the isolation valves are, how to access the drains, and who to contact helps us prepare for future visits and coordinate with your team.
We keep records of completed work and the conditions we find so the information is available when another issue comes up.
For the facilities team overseeing the locations, consistency matters: clear updates, useful reports, and explanations of anything that still needs to be addressed. That gives you a clearer picture of outstanding work across the portfolio.
Plan plumbing repairs around restaurant service
Restaurant repairs often need to happen outside regular hours. Even then, the available work window can be tight.
We need to account for closing time, kitchen cleanup, other contractors and when the restaurant needs everything back in service. If the work involves a shutdown, opening the floor, or replacing overhead drainage, we need to work out those details before we start.
For larger jobs, we break the work into stages where appropriate and coordinate what needs to be completed during each visit. The plan should establish what will happen that night, any impact on operations, and the condition the area will be left in when we finish.
At Jack’s, PPG investigated a drainage leak while the restaurant remained in service, taking care not to disrupt back-of-house operations. Clearing a blockage allowed a further camera inspection, which indicated damaged piping below the floor. The dishwashing area was operational, but the report identified that a permanent repair was still needed.
The repair was scheduled from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m., after the cleaning team had finished and before service began. PPG opened the concrete floor, confirmed a broken 2-inch drain fitting and replaced the damaged section. The team tested drainage, checked the repair with a camera, reinstated the concrete and cleaned the work area. This repair was completed without downtime for the restaurant.
Maintenance based on your restaurant and recurring issues
The right maintenance schedule depends on the equipment, how busy the restaurant is and its history of recurring issues. We assess the location and speak with management before recommending the scope and frequency of visits.
Depending on the agreed scope, work can include scheduled drain cleaning, replacement of single-stage or multi-stage water filters, checks of water-heating equipment and inspection of accessible piping and connections. Water filtration may serve individual equipment or the entire restaurant. Camera inspections and hydro-jetting can be used where appropriate.
We also inspect grease interceptors for flow and blockages, including upstream flow restrictors and outlet piping. An interceptor does not capture all fats, oils and grease, so the condition of the downstream pipework matters too. If a line repeatedly blocks, we investigate whether an underlying issue needs attention.
Restaurants need ongoing care as equipment, usage and operating demands change. Maintenance gives your team a chance to identify concerns, schedule repairs and reduce avoidable disruption to service.
What drain cleaning looks like in practice
At another GTA restaurant, PPG inspected 16 floor drains and found accumulated organic matter and debris. The cleaning was carried out between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. before opening, without affecting restaurant operations. The technician cleaned and flushed the drains, sanitised the grates and surrounding areas, and collected debris for disposal rather than washing it further into the drainage system.
The immediate issue was resolved, and management received recommendations for ongoing maintenance to help prevent a recurrence. The value for the facilities team was both the completed work and a practical next step for keeping the drains maintained.
Clear updates without chasing the technician
The on-site manager needs to know what’s happening and whether the affected fixtures or equipment can be used. The facilities team needs a record of the work and clear recommendations if more is required.
We use BuildOps to document the work performed, findings, photos and any access or testing limits. The authorised contact receives the report at the end of the visit, before the technician leaves the site.
Recommendations and possible additional work are flagged for office follow-up. Your facilities team has a record of the visit and a clear route for addressing the next steps, without having to track down the technician afterward.
Support for service calls and larger plumbing projects
Restaurant plumbing can mean a leaking faucet one day and a drainage replacement the next. Both need proper attention, but they require different planning.
For a service call, we first assess the problem and its urgency. A loss of hot water has different operational consequences from a single faulty faucet. If a temporary repair is appropriate, it may allow service to continue while a permanent repair is scheduled outside opening hours. For larger work, we establish the scope and coordinate access, timing and updates.
Planning for difficult equipment access
At a Tim Hortons restaurant, replacing a water heater involved more than connecting a new unit. PPG cleared the basement work area and temporarily removed a door to move the equipment through the stair access. The team installed the replacement heater and tested its operation and hot-water production.
Understanding equipment access, delivery and installation requirements is part of planning the job. These details help the restaurant team know what needs to happen before work begins.
Our primary service area is Toronto and the GTA. When discussing support for a restaurant group, we review the location list and requirements upfront so everyone understands the coverage and service arrangements.
Questions about plumbing support for restaurant groups
Can one plumbing contractor support multiple restaurant locations?
One contractor can provide continuity across locations when service coverage, access and reporting expectations are agreed upfront. PPG gets familiar with each restaurant’s equipment, layout and service history to help coordinate future repairs and maintenance.
Can restaurant plumbing repairs be scheduled outside operating hours?
Restaurant plumbing repairs can often be planned around service, subject to access and the work involved. PPG coordinates around closing time, kitchen cleanup and when systems need to be back in service. Larger repairs may be divided into stages where appropriate.
What does a restaurant plumbing maintenance program include?
The scope is based on the site assessment, equipment, level of use and recurring issues. It may include drain cleaning, water filter replacements, water-heating equipment checks, grease interceptor inspections and checks of accessible piping. Camera inspections or hydro-jetting may be recommended where appropriate.
Can plumbing repairs be completed without closing the restaurant?
A repair to an individual sink or fixture can often be isolated. Work on a main sanitary drain or primary water supply may require a temporary shutdown of part or all of the restaurant. PPG assesses the operational impact with management and schedules disruptive work outside service hours wherever safely and practically possible. Not every repair can be completed without a shutdown.
When will our facilities team receive the service report?
The authorised contact receives a report at the end of each visit, before the technician leaves the site. It documents the work performed, findings and photos, including any inspection or testing limits. Recommendations and possible additional work are flagged for office follow-up.
Where does PPG support restaurant groups?
PPG focuses on Toronto and the GTA, with particular attention to the Toronto core. Share your restaurant location list and service requirements so coverage and arrangements can be established upfront.
How quickly can PPG attend an urgent restaurant plumbing call?
PPG aims to be on site within two hours for service calls in its GTA service area. This is a response target rather than a guaranteed arrival time. The team assesses the urgency of the problem and plans the work to minimise disruption to restaurant operations and the guest experience. Ask PPG to confirm the expected response when requesting service.
Spend less time managing plumbing across your restaurants
Your facilities team needs to know who is handling the problem, what happens next and whether the restaurant can keep operating. Familiarity with your locations, coordinated repairs and clear reporting help make those decisions easier.
